Biography
Nasaria Esparza, born in Killeen, Texas, is a Chicago-based graphic designer. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bradley University with a BFA in Graphic Design and a minor in Marketing. A member of Pi Beta Phi, she served as Chapter President and was inducted into the Order of Omega for her leadership and academic excellence. Her work has been featured in both the BFA Exhibition and the university’s graphic design portfolio show. Nasaria’s creative journey began in high school through the National Art Honor Society, where she found her voice as an artist. While she has a strong passion for fashion and makeup, her professional design experience has largely been shaped by the world of sports. She has completed internships with Aramark, the Joliet Slammers, and Ludex, a tech company in the collectibles space. Her connection to sports is deeply personal. From cheering at family baseball games to supporting her younger brother’s athletic career, it’s a thread that runs through her life. Looking ahead, Nasaria is excited to return to her roots in Chicago, where she will continue her design work with Ludex in River North. There, she hopes to keep merging her personal passions with her professional creativity.
Artist's Statement
My work in graphic design is rooted in creating spaces of peace and beauty, often drawing from fashion, aesthetics, and my love for thrifting and shopping. I explore a variety of mediums including ceramics, letterpress, and photography to deepen my creative process. As a child, I was captivated by artist books and spent hours studying the lives and works of artists like Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dalí, and Vincent van Gogh. I was fascinated not only by their art but also by the places they came from and the inspirations behind their creative expressions. During my time at Bradley University, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy. That semester profoundly shaped me. Experiencing art firsthand in museums I had only seen online brought a new depth to my understanding. That time taught me to slow down, to observe, and to connect with art more intentionally. My love for art has only grown stronger since. The exhibition Ni de Aquí, Ni de Allá: Packaging the In-Between translates to “not from here, not from there,” and it brings together multiple works that reflect this sense of cultural duality. Through redesigned packaging and visual storytelling, I explore how identity can exist in the in-between. Many of the details in this body of work are rooted in my family history and traditions. One example is the reimagined Lotería game board, which honors my parents’ wedding where their table cards were inspired by Lotería. This game has been a constant at family gatherings, and incorporating it allowed me to connect personal memory with broader cultural symbolism.Through this exhibition, I found comfort in combining both sides of my identity and creating a space where they can coexist, emotionally and physically.
