Artist's Statement

I am an oil painter focused on depicting birds, particularly species that are vivid, uncommon, and often overlooked. My work centers on capturing the individuality and presence of each bird, treating them as subjects worthy of quiet attention rather than background elements in a larger scene. Through careful observation and an appreciation for their natural beauty, I translate the experience of birdwatching into a visual form that invites others to slow down and truly see them. My process begins with selecting birds from a wide range of regions across the world, drawn to their rich colors and unique forms. I am especially interested in species that many people may not recognize, allowing my work to serve as both artistic expression and subtle introduction. I paint using oil to build depth and vibrancy, while keeping the backgrounds minimal and unobtrusive. This approach isolates the bird within the composition, creating a space that feels intentional rather than artificial, as if the bird has chosen to exist there rather than being placed or confined. I create this work because birdwatching brings me a sense of calm and focus that I want to share with others. Painting allows me to extend that feeling, transforming a quiet, personal experience into something that can be seen and felt by a wider audience. By highlighting lesser known birds, I spark curiosity and appreciation, encouraging viewers to recognize the diversity and beauty that exists beyond what is familiar. Ultimately, my work is about connection, both to the natural world and to moments of stillness that often go unnoticed.
