Artist's Statement

My oil paintings play with the often unseen intricacies of nature and focus on how color can amplify these pieces of life. I pay special attention to moments in nature that may go unnoticed, like the growing blades of grass or a single leaf growing from the dirt. I also find it natural to change the viewpoint of a subject, either zoomed in, bug’s eye view, or somewhere in between. The expressive and exaggerated color that I use in each piece elevates its naturalistic aspects. Expressive color allows me to create unique landscapes and moments in my works. I connect with vibrant, highly saturated colors the most and use this to create a whimsical, fantastical feeling to my work. Using my own photos, my landscapes are handpicked and then built with distinctive brushstrokes and local color to further push the reality of the pieces.
